    Boy Scouts Fundraiser...Really??????

My 8 year old just got his supply of pre-popped kettle corn to sell for the cub /boy scouts. I know all fundraising stuff is over priced....buy you think they could do a little better than this.

$ 15 for a 6 oz bag. I'm embarrassed to ask anybody for that much money for a bag of popcorn Is it because they think folks wont say NO to a kid....smh

Don't participate. After everybody gets "their" cut very little actually goes to the cause. I hate it when my daughter has the stupid school fund raisers!!

Kids fundraisers have gotten completely out of hand.

I'd much rather see the boys (and girls) sell things they made themselves. It's a better lesson.

Unless it's changed recently the troops get a decent cut from selling the popcorn.

We never sold pre-popped corn but the regular stuff is real good.

I bought about $100 worth of popcorn from my neighbor's kid.
I was kinda surprised when it was about 3 shoeboxes worth.

It's a good cause, but like Limbwalker said, the supplier (Trail's end, I believe) is the one benefiting most from the fundraising.

I finally got tired of having my kids fleece friends and family so we just pay the buyout.

I know they are missing out on an important lesson, but it was just too much.

I sort of like the frozen cookie doughs.

We sold it for years & it's great tasting.

But as you point out, the size is small & continues to shrink yearly

                Good cause though

                  $15!!!!!!

My kids have not had to do any fund raising yet but if they are ever asked to sell pop corn for 15 bucks i pretty sure i'm not going to allow it.
                  Thats just not right

The bad thing is when you have 5 or 6 parents at work pimping all the same stuff.

"Yes. I need another 3 lbs of gummy bears for $20".

                      That is a lot.

My troop sold bags of fertilizer. We would sell the bags and deliver them. I remember going door to door delivering my sales pitch. I sold a couple hundred bags every sale (twice a year). There were a few special customers that would pay me a little extra to install the fertilizer. I would go over a day or two after the delivery day and spread the fertilizer for them.

The troop got some of the money, and I got $1 per bag I sold. The money went into my "scout account". With that, I was able to pay my own way to summer camp, and buy a bunch of gear while I was in the troop.

You just now got your popcorn? Seems a tad on the late side.

It's a fundraiser people. You aren't buying popcorn, you are donating to a cause and in the process are supposed to be helping out the scout who is summoning the courage to ask you to support them.

I do think for Boy Scouts (older) it makes better sense to stear away from popcorn sales. It's the same reason I purchase overpriced mulch every year from the local troop.

I'd personally rather have them just ask for cash donations....any amount....instead of ( what I consider) screwing people over.

                          Anyway....anybody want some popcorn?? $ 15 a bag...I'll ship it for $ 10. He77, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em

When I was in charge of it a few years ago we got like 33% I think or something like that -
We chose to do other fundraisers now

One of the things the Scouts used to sell was a "Camp Card" that had a tag good at Valero for a discount off fountain drinks for an entire year. We'd buy at least four of them every year.

I was bummed to hear they're no longer doing that.
