    Getting Better and Better

    Like they say practice,practice.
    Have been shooting everyday from July.
    Now I'm shooting at 50 yds.
    Putting all the arrows in a tight group in the kill zone.
    But here's my question?
    I have a old compound Browning Shadow set at 55lbs.
    Shooting 300 carbon express and a 100 gr. Magnus Buzz cut 4 Blade.
    Will this have enough penetrating power at this range?
    With 100gr field points the arrow is moving at 210 FPS.
    Thanks

    I would not take a shot a 50 yards. There is just too much room for error. I can keep a 6 group shot at 50 yards in 4" but I still wouldn't shot a deer at that range. Just my 2cents.

      There is a formula to figure out Kinetic Energy but I can't find it.

        E=0.5*mass*velocity^2

        If you convert FPS to meters/second and put in your arrow weight in kilos you'll know how many joules you're putting out. I'm not sure how many joules it takes to kill a deer.

            I wouldn't shoot at a Texas whitetail at over 25 yards. Hogs will often wait for and arrow to hit so I have no problem with you taking a 50 yards shot then. Plenty of bow and energy

                each his own and if you feel confident on the shot go for it.many critters get taken out @ that distance with a quick clean kill.good luck

                  Pesonally, I would not take the shot. The "duck factor" is just unpredictable. Sometimes they will duck a foot and sometimes nothing at all. Not sure where I'd aim.

                  Back in my younger days, I remember shooting at an Axis from 50 yds. The arrow went perfect. By the time it got there (270 fps), the deer had ducked, turned and spun out of the way. A clean miss, but I could have easily wounded that deer. Not too cool at all.
