I have purchased a couple of rides from them. Always felt as if I was treated fairly. Got a quote to sell them a truck and thought the offer was too low. But, they are buying to resell. I sold privately and did quite a bit better.

I don't deal with dealers with the whole "one simple price" thing. I always feel like I'm getting screwed lol

I tried to sell my Tahoe when we were getting the wife a new car and they offered me $2,000 less than the stealership did. I have dealt with Texas Direct Auto and they gave me a very fair price on my Silverado.

They are like any dealer they are in it to make profit, you are better selling it yourself.

When I worked new car sales person brought in a 79 Firebird Transam was in ok condition they gave them $500. The next week they put a tag for $3500 on it I don't think they even buffed it.

Texas Direct Auto will usually beat CarMax

I bought and flipped a Z71 to Carmax a few months ago. They gave me the highest wholesale offer by far in San Antonio. The other dealers told me CarMax could beat them every time on clean 4X4's because they could put them on a car hauler and send them up to their lots in the northeast where clean Texas 4X4's (no salt history) bring top dollar.

We traded in the wife's forester at carmax and got a pretty good deal considering the transmission was bad. We were honest with them about the issues with the car. We tried to sell as is for a few months and got more than our asking price on the trade.

                      That wasn't my experience.
I took my F150 4x4 by there to get a price to see if it worth avoiding the hassle of selling it myself. KBB (private party) was just over $14K; they offered me $7,500.

I was just there yesterday to get a bid on a car. From some research I did, I learned that only 1 in 3 cars they buy go into their inventory. If they want to put your car on their lot, the offer will likely be at the high range of the KBB trade-in value. The low-ball offers come on cars they are going to take to auction and wholesale to other dealers. The difference between what they offered me and what I might be able to get for it if I retailed it myself is probably about $1,500 - this is on a 2011 Mazda w/62k miles. They gave me the offer which is good for 7 days. Now I just have to decide if a possible extra $1,500 is worth the hassle of running an ad and dealing with all the knuckleheads.

Took a Toyota Tacoma 4X4 to Carmax and got an offer. Went to the Toyota dealer where I had originally bought it and was offered significantly less. Showed Toyota the Carmax offer and they told me they couldn't/wouldn't match it.

I haven't dealt with them in years but when I did they did give me a much higher offer than any dealership did on my trade in. I think I bought 3 vehicles from them in the early to mid 2000's. I'd go back and deal with them again based on my previous history and experience.

I used them as a gauge for my last truck. They offered me more than I thought. I then sold to my nephew for the same or a little more. Quick, easy appraisal. I would give them a try again, I think they were fair.
