    Photobucket users- privacy issue

If you use photobucket.com to host your pictures, somebody can right click on the picture, get the url, and then browse around and look at all your pictures on photobucket.

Unless, you change from public to private. To do that:

    - Next to Albums, there is a blue link called edit
    - There is a pull-down that will say public (default), you can change all your sub albums or just the ones you use for posting online to private
    - Ignore the password (leave blank). That way a link to the individual picture will work, BUT then somebody can't see any of your other pictures.

    - you can get fancy and do that to some sub albums, put a password on another that you can allow somebody to see all the pictures in an entire album, etc.

I hope this helps and is useful. I did not realize that until today. If all else fails, read the owner's manual.

A fellow TBH'er actually used this to help me last week. I was having issues posting pics and he was able to fix it. I did IM him and ask how he was able to do that, and got not response. Again, I appreciated him doing this but I also was not aware that my pictures were subject to viewing without my consent.

I have nothing to hide and had only a few pics on there. If I was concerned about the public viewing them, I wouldn't post them on this or another Web site. Just store them on a portable device. I'm not trying to start a spat, but I don't understand the concern. Am I missing something?

If I upload my family pictures to photobucket, I don't want somebody, who happens to be reading a thread on TBH, to be able to view not only the picture I posted, but all of my personal pictures. Nothing I wouldn't show my Mother, but pictures of my daughter's birthday, etc. are none of their business.

          That's all.

If you don't want everyone/anyone to see the pictures don't post them on the internet...period. Otherwise someone else can make money off your pictures posted on publicly available websites.

By displaying or publishing ("posting") any Content on or through the Photobucket Services, you hereby grant to Photobucket and other users a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, worldwide, limited license to use, modify, delete from, add to, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce and translate such Content, including without limitation distributing part or all of the Site in any media formats through any media channels, except Content marked "private" will not be distributed outside the Photobucket Services.

You can stop this (known as backtracking) from happening by going to "account options" on the upper right hand corner of your photobucket. Then scroll down to "album settings" and change the "my album is..." toggle from public to private. Then when somebody tries to backtrack your album it will ask them for your password.

For example, take the url for this image and trim off the name. You won't be able to see the rest of my album.

                  Alaskan, that's what I did.

If I post a picture here or on another web site, I intend for people to see it. What I did not intend was to allow somebody to browse through the hundreds of other pictures I uploaded.

Yes, it's ridiculous that the default setting is public. But it is pretty simple to fix the problem.

Like many other things in life, you don't know you need to fix it, because you don't realize it's broken. It is pretty tricky that they set the default to public.
