    Protein Tubs for Deer?

Has anybody ever put the big protein tubs inside their feed pens for deer? They are designed for cattle but I was wondering if the deer would eat them?

Yeah, something like that. Doesn't sound like they were very successful.

I use them sometimes. The heat makes them liquid so I put oats in it to dry it out. they loved it. So do ants though

pour a sack of sugar on top to get them started eating it.

I picked up some deer tubs at L&E last year, they were like a giant Snickers bars lol...had roasted peanuts, molasses, grain, corn all mixed in....deer loved it. They were around $42 tub.

We used some and did not have great success. We had them in a covered area and would still lose a lot of protein everytime it rained. All the protein would be ruined and you have to dump it out and fil back up. Would be very difficult if you did not live on property. The tubs cost less up front but will cost more than a protein feeder in the long run.

Now I am curious about these? Know any retail place that sells them?

Not sure, I've only ever seen them at the L&E in Llano. Could call them up and ask if they have other distributors. Charles could tell you.

Did you just set them out of did you have them covered somehow? Does the rain hurt them?

I just set them out in the feed pen. Drilled some holes vertically in the sides of the tub so they wouldn't hold water. Worked fine.
