    Why Chevy Why?

Why in the world would they not put an inline fuel filter on the trucks?

Had some problems starting my truck yesterday. It was running itself out of fuel. Did the old key trick to get her started and all was fine. Started looking for the filter and its in the stinking tank. I hate that. Guess when I get some time, Ill pull the bed and put a new pump in with an inline fuel filter.

The filter is more of a strainer that is at the base of the fuel pump. They've been doing it for a few years now, and chevy isn't the only one, they have almost all gone to that system.

Yeah I looked at some pictures. Ive worked on vehicles my whole life and guess I never worked on ones like this.

Its an 06 chevy. they started doing it in 06 as an 05 has inline filter.

It should have an inline filter along one of the frame rails. Follow the fuel line from the tank toward the front.

"In line fuel filter gone in 2006 - this was done to reduce hot fuel returning to the tank causing high emissions.
there is no service intervals for fuel filter replacement , as per GM."

That's ridiculous. Every day they make it more and more of a pita to work on your own vehicle. Higher emissions... Right... More like our dealership will charge you to fix it

What was funny is I went to the local Auto parts store and he had no idea. I was looking for the parts to put an inline in and he was making calls trying to find it the fuel filter.. I was not going to pay $350 for a fuel pump when I can order the same one online for half that.

Splice your fuel line and put one in

Well I have an 05 Chevy crew Z71 and went through this last year. Mine too is in the tank so either had to drop the tank or remove the bed to get to it. Good luck!

Had a 1998 Dodge Ram. No inline fuel filter, was in the tank.

Well the good news is it has started with no problems yesterday afternoon and this morning. Wife is all worried about it but as long as it will get me 22 miles a day for now, I am happy
