Minimum size of land to hunt on

I know it has been posted before, but what are the legal sizes of land one can hunt on be it with a gun or bow?

    I think it is 10 1/4 acres

Inside city limits the state law is:
      Over 10 acres, shotgun
      Over 50 acres, centerfire

Most cities I have researched floow the state guidelines.

Never heard of a minimum for bow.

          Restricted Areas in Counties
It is against the law to:

hunt in a subdivision with lots 10 acres or less in an unincorporated area of a county if the commissioners court, by order, prohibits the discharge of a firearm or the use of archery equipment in such subdivisions. (Contact local county clerk and ask about 235.022, Local Government Code.)

This is the correct answer. Within city limits is a little different. If the land was incorporated after 1982 (? not sure about the correct year) the city cannot prohibit bowhunting on tracts of 10 acres or more. For rifle hunting it's 50 acres.

Check with the county if the tract is less than 10 acres.

My buddies best buck came to the feeder while he was in the lazyboy.

Shot it through the crack in the door.

That sounds about right. There is a subdivision in Brazoria county that was outside the city limits. Anyways, the subdivision was one of those "planned" communities that somewhat failed, so roughtly only half the lots were built on. However, the deer population was thick out there, and some people were buying lots, hanging treestands, and tagging out on deer during archery season. Basically, some people in the subdivision were complaining about safety issues (treehuggers??), and the county stepped in and made it unlawful to even bowhunt the properties citing the law written above.

                      What about homeowners associations...

I have 10.72 acres in Kerr County and the property owner's association has said "no hunting". However, if it's doing damage to my property, that's a different issue. Any legal wizzes on here to tell me how to get around the restriction?

I believe you are stuck. HOAs can pretty much set the rules they want, as I understand it. Especially if the rules were in place before you bought the property.

I think so. My folks have 12 acres in the hill country, and the "HOA", if you could call it that doesn't allow hunting.

I'm not sure how it works with the HOA groups overstepping state laws... maybe they send you a nasty letter saying "weedeat your yard, make sure your trashcan is in before 6PM, and stop field dressing deer on your driveway"
