Restricted Areas in Counties
It is against the law to:
hunt in a subdivision with lots 10 acres or less in an unincorporated area of a county if the commissioners court, by order, prohibits the discharge of a firearm or the use of archery equipment in such subdivisions. (Contact local county clerk and ask about 235.022, Local Government Code.)

That sounds about right. There is a subdivision in Brazoria county that was outside the city limits. Anyways, the subdivision was one of those "planned" communities that somewhat failed, so roughtly only half the lots were built on. However, the deer population was thick out there, and some people were buying lots, hanging treestands, and tagging out on deer during archery season. Basically, some people in the subdivision were complaining about safety issues (treehuggers??), and the county stepped in and made it unlawful to even bowhunt the properties citing the law written above.

I think so. My folks have 12 acres in the hill country, and the "HOA", if you could call it that doesn't allow hunting.
I'm not sure how it works with the HOA groups overstepping state laws... maybe they send you a nasty letter saying "weedeat your yard, make sure your trashcan is in before 6PM, and stop field dressing deer on your driveway"
