The tractor really won't bother the deer. I don't know how many times we plowed during the day and had deer out in the plowed plots and under the feeder at night. The problem with planting to early is that if it comes up it will burn up and die.

I will probably drop seed the middle of October. I have planted right before bow season the last several years and not happy with the results. Deer dont care if you run through there with a tractor a few times- I have them come watch me sometimes and always see fresh tracks where they come to see what I have done.

I went out on a limb and planted this past weekend (in Livingston). I talked to two farmers who both said to give it a try. I mixed lablab (summer mix) and winter peas and hope one of the two come up. Problem last year was that by the time the stuff sprouted the end of Sept, the deer ate them to the ground and killed them. One farmer I talked to who also hunts said to plant now while they have other browse to keep them occupied. Biggest problem is the heat killing them. Luckly I got 1.5 inches of rain Friday and over 2 inches on Saturday. Ground was nice and moist while I was planting.
I'll see what happens and keep everyone posted.
