Envious, Looks like a great day with the dogs. Hopefully the quail population will rebound, seems to be down everywhere last few years. First love was chasing Blues back home in New Mexico.
My first hunt ever was a quail hunt, about when I was 10 years old. That was way back in the day when it wasn't uncommon to kill over 300 birds in a weekend. I always had a kennel full of dogs, till up about 10 or 11 years ago. Just got to hard to find any good day leases. And if I found one, it didn't have any birds. Since my last dog died, I haven't been on a quail hunt. We then started going up to Kansas and pheasant hunt. When I was up there on my deer hunt, I never heard or seen so many quail up there in the 10 yrs I've been going. Got invited to go on a free quail hunt with my outfitter, but just didn't have the time to get back up there.
Ain't nothing like walking in a covey rise with 20 to 30 birds!!!
I didn't realize this thread actually started. It told me I did not have authorization to start a thread. We ended with 31 quail, 1 pheasant and 2 chucker. All birds were realeased but still had a great time.
Love Walton Ranch! My favorite guides were Grover and Billy... Killed hundreds of birds there. Jody runs a good operation. Always used some kind of .410 bore... even some with the contender 10" barrel .410 bore pistol... He puts on a pretty good lunch too between hunts.
