    Deer confuse me...

Spent Friday at the lease. A drive around the property late in the morning resulted in a doe sighting.

There was also an orange sasquatch sigting in an oak tree.

After spending around 2 hours putting up a feeder and two treestands in one spot, my friend and I are bs-ing being loud while we pick up all the corn sacks and other stuff when I look up and see a deer milling around a mere 50 yards from us.

Unbelievable. I only had one deer in bow range last season and he was too small to shoot. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for this spot.

Got some in and some out in Junction, TX. The younger ones were in and the older ones were out.

They know when they're being hunted. The African game generally ignore the lions until the lions go on the hunt, then tentions rise. I imagine you go into your feeders different during the season than you do now. They know they're being hunted. I NEVER sneak my stands. I go in the same way no matter the season. If I see a deer on the way in, I ignore it and continue. During the offseason, when I go to my stands, there's goodies on the ground when I leave. They associate me with good things and it translates into lots of deer close during the season.

You've definitely got a good point tuthdoc, but the main problem I have at this place is that the deer are so hard to pattern.

There is a lot of agriculture in the area as well as a lot of fresh growth in our shallow water duck ponds (not flooded until the end of October) that they like to eat.

I only have pics of deer at feeders during one stretch last summer before the acorns fell.

I've pretty much conceded the fact that the feeder is there for the hogs and hopefully I'll get a chance at a deer passing through. I've been moving my cuddeback around to different game trails as well because my best chance will be to figure out where the deer are feeding and catch them going to or coming from that area.

If you can find a bedding area, then setup on a trail leading to or from it, you might have some luck as well. Just a thought...
