The option to search on www.travelocity.com used to be great. You could find the cheapest airline fares (except Southwest was not included in those search parameters). The formal beauty of this was to click flexible dates. This would take you out 300 days in advance. So instead of traveling one particular day, it would show you the cheapest fares and/or times that would be almost impossible to guess randomly.

Obama in his infinite wisdom made them shut that option down because it only showed the total cost of the ticket and did not disclose in the TOTAL cost you were paying, the airlines calculated baggage fees. Who cares what the total cost is? I have never seen the isolation of the Federal taxes on ANY of my tickets but those expenses are very high, nor do I see an indication when I buy fuel how much in taxes are added to these cost.

www.kayak.com is also another webpage to search. Be sure and look for flexible dates. If you hit it when there is a convention in town, then you will pay a lot higher fee during a time when they know there is not a scheduled event.

Depends on where you're going, direct or with layover, coach or business class.

1st and 2nd checked bags are free on Southwest, every other is ~$35/bag! Figure an extra $200 in baggage for a roundtrip flight and even if SW is $50 higher in cost, you still save money.

I love spirit. But I don't check a bag and my carry on is just barely under the size requirement for a charge for carry on. I booked six flights round trip from DFW to New York laguardia a couple days ago and after paying for the seats it was 90 bucks per round trip ticket. Just make sure if you use spirit you look at the total cost for what you want and know that they're non refundable or transferable. You can save a lot of money with them or you could end up spending a lot extra if you don't educate yourself on the baggage and seat fees.

Try JetBlue, lots of leg room(I am 6'7). Rated high in satisfaction.

My issue lies with the fact that the cancel flights like nobodys business. I get it. Cheap tickets=need for a full plane. Just doesnt works for me. They all suck. IMO, Spirits just sucks more.
