    Hornaday ZMax ammo and deer

    ???

All I see on Hornaday site is to kill Zombies. Not to be used for anything else...

    .223 VMax 55gr on a neck shot at <50yds???

Or recommend a .223 load for close range doe. Not going to try my bow till sometime in the summer so the AR it is.

I have read that it's actually the amax. I've killed plenty of deer w it.

I kinda figured from 25yds and a neck shot it really wouldn't matter much.
Just would like to take a doe or 2 if possible this last weekend. Will also have the 10mm and might use that also...

It's a vmax with a different tip color. Neck or head dead dead dead

It's an V-Max bullet with a green tip instead of red, that's it.

We neck shoot deer in both 223 and 22-250 with Hornady 55gr VMax almost exclusively at our ranch. Drops them in their tracks. Blows out back side of neck. Their is no adrenalin rush, they go straight down. Most shots are 75 to 100 yards. Hogs shot in ear takes em right down with same bullet.

This is specifically made for ARs and for deer. 62 gr Federal FusionĀ® MSR.

The VMax is a varmint round and will frag a bunch.

I have my daughter use this in her TC single shot for deer and it works great.

That's all I use in my 22-250 is vmax ammo. Good stuff. Good luck with it.

I love the Hornady but I use the Superformance. They are @200-300 fps faster. I've shot many deer in the middle of the shoulder and they have all went down within 40 yards. No exit wound but the cavity is demolished.

Couple years ago my daughter took a spike with the 50gr. V-Max out of a bow blind from about 25yds. Little guy fell within 30yds. Bullet was recovered nice mushroom shape with about 45% weight retention. The shot was behind the shoulder and the bullet was recovered on the far side just under the hide.

I've shot lots of deer with my 22-250 with 55gr vmax. Neck shots are devastating. If within a close range, I wouldnt hesitate to take a quartering away shot to the vitals. Of course, within that range, neck shots are the ticket.

Thanks for the info guys. I also have some 50gr Federal Hollow points and probably will use them. Forgot I had'em...

I know there's better deer rounds but I'm looking realistically at a max of 40yds out of a bow stand so hopefully any of these 2 would work but I'm thinking the HP would be the better. Just want some meat.
