Im not arguing in defense of your neighbor at all. I would just take a few minutes to look at the potential benefits.

You really need to get rid of/run off those pigs asap. Time is not on your side, but a few days pressure should move them on for a while. 12 gauge buckshot for max effect. My deer activity really drops when pigs are abundant.

Just go look. If the flagging is up then they found an iron rod or other marker in the ground below the flagging. If it's a long side you would need to call or get a surveyor to see where the fence falls along the fence (assuming you can't line up the two iron rods yourself.

Jeff, I didn't take it that way and there would be no need to defend him fencing his place. I'm not at all against his right to do it.

We've been in a very fortunate situation for a long time with a lot of land behind and beside us that was not hunted at all. We always took the attitude that we were hunting and managing far more land than we owned...yes we stayed on our side of the fence. The pool we are drawing from is getting shallower bit by bit with all these fences going up. It is what is.

I told my uncle last night, look on the bright side, at least the 200 acres was not simply leased out to a bunch of hunters that shoot everything in site. It's all about perspective and the reality of owning small acreage.

I'm currently running 9 cameras on our 110acres. It'll be interesting to see what the next few camera checks reveal. I feel like we just need to sit tight and see what the next year brings and go from there.

Cover is so heavy on both sides, there is no line of site. I've never even been to the spot where his property stops along our fence line.

I don't think the guy is a crappy neighbor. Do I wish he was simply buying the property and would join in with us and other neighbors to manage the land? Sure I do. But him high fencing the place doesn't make him a crappy neighbor.

I just think when he called my uncle he was looking for a negative reaction and with the way he came off, that's what he got. Nothing more nothing less. What I've mainly been interested in is what our rights were.

As some of said take pics and document as much as you can. Start slinging as much feed as possible as soon as possible! Good luck and hopefully yall can work things out with the neighbor.

A free ranging deer in Texas will be something you tell the grandkids about cuz they ain't gonna believe it.

Please don't turn this thread into a referendum on high fences. That was not why this thread was started. Thanks!

                        High fence "fence" question?

Honestly- If the guy is going to be serious about deer - he don't want the native deer probably anyway. If just getting in to hold deer for family hunting then maybe so, but if he is wanting to try his hand at growing big deer the fence is to keep deer out as much as in

Yes I was joking earlier about tractor hitting fence.

Our neighbor here where I live has a beautiful place - they keep it mowed around fence inside and out - Have a hot wire around base on outside and even weedeat and spray entire several hundred acres fence lines. They have 10 -12 yards between us so they can drive down it, mow, etc without trespassing. They have zebras, axis, gemsbucks, fallow, pier david, wt, bb, sable - you name it . I can look out my front door about 500 yards and see them

People put up high fences because of crappy neighbors.

Thought I would update this thread. My uncle did not have anymore contact with the neighbor, which is what we expected and are fine with. They have gotten their high fence up in the last couple weeks since the rains. What they ended up doing all around their place was putting the fence about 3' inside the property line. Pretty well left everything alone with the existing fence and everything on our side of the fence. That gap between is nice and clear and should give them easy room to maintain their fence from both sides as needed. I'm glad he went on and got it up early in the summer. We get a lot of bucks on our place every summer hitting our protein feeders and that is unchanged this year. It'll be interesting to see how it effects our hunting up in that end of the place.
