There used to be some good deer out there and I assume there still are. I hunted North of 20 and west of town for 3 seasons. The place was small and we never killed anything big, but I know there were good deer around us.
      It's an AR county.

Hunted just North of Rising Star (right down the road) for a few years when I was around 12-15yrs old and there was a few deer and quite a few turkeys. I don't remember anyone killing any big deer but I am sure there are some there. A lot can change in 20 yrs though!

I used to live there, and there's a lot of deer around. A buddy of mine killed a monster south of town years ago

It really depends where you are and the adjoining properties. Like many areas of Texas that are within two hours of a metro area, much of Eastland County has been chopped up into smaller weekend places but there are still some big ranches. I know that is not info that is any help, but there are a lot of heavily hunted shot-out properties and some with some great deer. How's that for a non-answer?

How far south? I have a lease in the area. In the little town of May to give you a better idea.

I got on late but good deer numbers, no Giants but it's a good looking area. I havnt had good luck like others on my lease but it's not unusual to see over 5-10 deer per sit.

LOTS of dove, hoping to start seeing the giant hogs back on camera, other than that I'm not sure what other answers I could help out with.

Yep. It depends on the ranch and the hunting pressure that it has had for the last few years as well as the neighboring ranches.

I have been on a place north of crossplains, south of putnam for the last 5 years. The other guys have been on about 15 years. There have been some nice deer taken several years ago. I believe we are still suffering the affects of the drought, deer numbers are down across that area. In talking to Joe over at J&L and local processors, the reports have been really spotty for awhile. Not really sure why, probably too much for them to eat and lots of cover. Then add all the corn feeders and food plots. We had pretty good activity through the rut then it just fell off, very little activity but you know they are there. Very little activity around the feeders except at night. Food plots received some activity during the day, mostly at night. We still have tons of acorns on the ground that the pigs dont even come to anymore. Just cant figure it out. We have spent several weekends further west around water valley and it is a completly different story. Might be time for a change in locations.

We've had our place in Ranget since 1989. A mature buck in the area will be in the upper 140s. We have had a poor fawn crop over the last 4 years so numbers are down. Spoke with Rust deer processing yesterday. They have done about 1000 deer. A good year produces about 1600 or so. Hogs have showed up over the last 5-6 years. Turkey numbers are ok depending on the ranch. The acorn crop can kill deer feeder activity for sure. This would be a shooter(trophy)for this area
