Never had a custom skinning knife made but always wanted to. Stopped at Dan Harrison's shop in Ben Wheeler this weekend. You can't walk outta there without one if you go in. Talked to him for about an hour. What a cool guy! Could have listened to him all day. He tried to talk me out of a Damascus blade but I've always wanted one. Gonna order desert ironwood for the handle. You gotta go by his shop if you're in the area. Can't eat to get it in!!

Well let me take that back. He didn't neccesarily try to talk me out of it, but was just saying that the D2 steel he uses in his knives will hold an edge longer and are stronger. The Damascus is 2 metals forged together and are not quite as strong. But, he said they are still way better than any commercial knife you can buy. I'll honestly probably buy another he has on the shelf when I go pick this one up. I think he gets a lot of satisfaction out of customers being able to skin a dozen deer without having to ever sharpen the knife, that's what he was getting at. LOL he actually brought me to the back and grabbed some 2 foot machete and slammed it blade side down on an anvil, said "see didn't even hurt the metal, can't do that with a Damascus". LOL.
