Looking for help with some lease questions

Wanting to find a lease for the 2015/2016 season. Would like to stay within 2 hrs of DFW. I have a family ranch in Eastland I typically hunt, but it's is family and some friends want to get on a lease and I don't feel comfortable taking them on since I don't own it. They are good guys and getting our own place and starting our own campfire would be fun.

Probably going to be 4-5 guys. Mostly gun hunt as I am currently the only arrow slinger. Would like to see deer, hogs, turkey, dove, and ducks.

Where would anyone recommend I look and what time of year to start? Should I inquire with a realtor? I figure $1000 a gun could find a decent place. The plan is to find a good place and make it a long term commitment building a good relationship with a landowner. I even thought about Oklahoma some, just don't know much about it.

Any suggestions and advice are welcome.

Now thru May is prime time to look. Your major hurdle I can see is the $1000 per gun. Most pay $1500 to $4000 per gun and more for leases these days. Best of luck with your search. Check with Chambers of commerces in areas you would like to hunt in. There are lease finder sites on the web.

What worked for me in the past: Google area Chamber of Commerce, area papers, just be ready to search and search some more. When I traveled I would stop in at feed stores and check out their bulletin board (if they had one) or simply ask if they knew of anyone leasing. It's not just one thing, but many things to find a good place.
Good luck! Oh, one more thing, besides TP&W "on line," find the local game warden and see if they know of anything. Worked once years ago and found a lease we stayed on for almost 6 years.
