Live Muzzleloader hunt from a wet Polk County

Here we go. Next week is "the big hunt" but I thought I would cruise up today to see what's what (not having been up in a few weeks). I am sitting over a green field that the deer start using this time of year. I am not totally optimistic cause I found some good acorns on the ground today.... It ain't got tough for the pine donkeys. I did see some sign of hog (rate on my place) so if a hog pops out this turns into a hog hunt. It's raining ... Hope I can update.

What kind of muzzleloader are you using?

Here is what I am watching over. This plot usually gets activity late into winter.... So far this fall we have not hunted it. If you can tell the oats are long.... I wanted to cut it for late muzzleloader but it is like a marsh! There is clover and chicory as well.

It is so saturated up here!!! Water standing in every tiny recess. It's good to get outta Houston despite the wetness... Thank god for Lacrosse Grange boots!!!

It's is a good view ... But a damp one! I am in A Summit climber. Nothing yet. This hunt will end quickly ... It's not 5 yet and it's already gray. Evenings like this up here can be good!

Hoping to hit our place up there next weekend. Most of my season was blown due to work and weather. Why does it always seem to rain up there on the weekends???

Anyway, nice looking field. Do you know how many acres you have planted?

Thank you. Rain has actually stopped. This field is approx 2 acres. We no longer disc and plant... I just seed and drag and cut it. The clovers held over all summer last year. We have killed deer on this field... But it has gotten a little unreliable. They hit it hard in February however and I have even found sheds in it in the past.

Good to hear about the rain stopping. When we bought our place I had no idea that it rained so much up there. Anyway, did you guys fence off the area when you planted or is 2 acres large enough to not have to worry about the deer / hogs mowing it down before it can get established? Sorry for taking your post off topic. We are thinking of doing some plots this year but have never messed with them before. Good luck with your hunting!

Just saw this... No need to fence.
