Question about management or cull bucks

I realize those terms are whatever the lease rules designates. Many leases allow one trophy and one cull/management buck per member. For the MLD leases, are there tags designated for that or is this generally for the non-AR counties that allow either two or three bucks to be taken legally and the lease rules say what you can kill. There always seems to be someone asking what a cull is but for us in the AR counties that is a moot point. I am just curious as to how that works.

We cant cull buck in either county we are in. 2 buck county 1 spike and 1 13"+. We don't really have any goofy genetics though. Usually main frame 8 points from 2.5 and up.

Cull is a word used by hunters to justify implementing their own version of a management plan. MLD tags are buck or ANTLERLESS just like a regular hunting lisence. They are not designated as cull tags, but managers use them to define what can or can not be shot.

I think you are asking, if hunting on an MLD 3, do the antler restrictions apply?

I hunt on two such properties as a guest and I thought that on an MLD 3, only your tags determine what can be taken and the tags are for bucks and does with no other restrictions. In fact if you take a deer on such a property, you cannot use your own license but must use the MLD tag issued to that property. If you hunt on a property with 15 tags and the owner/manager wants you to kill all 15, you can as there is no limit per hunter like hunting on the general license since the land has its own limit.

Then again I don't run those and only hunt on them but that was my understanding. I believe that once the tags are issued by sex, what you kill is up to you and the only limit is using the correct doe or buck tag.

All true. My place is MLDP Level 3. If I have a buck that is too narrow for AR, and he is old enough that I know he won't get there, I can " cull " him and have my tag replaced. I've never done it, but had pics of an old narrow, high racked eight point that I would have taken had I ever seen him live and in person. Showed the pic to my biologist and was told to take him if I could. Never got the chance, because he was a vampire, at least on my place.

By the way, if I had taken this buck, I sure as hell wouldn't have called him a " cull ". He was an impressive old buck !

Our biologist wants us to shoot all the spikes...guess that qualifies as cull buck.
