In no way do I agree with shooting rifles out there. I was only referring to bow hunting. I have seen some bad shots people have made but they are probably kids that have no hunting ethics and weren't brought up hunting. As far as the gun fire goes you will always have that. You can't stop all the poachers. As far as it being a dangerous place to live.....your prob right. I would stay out of that neighborhood. More space for me. Lol

Been a resident of BarX for 15yrs and a avid bow hunter for 35 yrs. Repeating what TxBobcat posted I also can't bring myself to kill em. And it darn sure shouldnt be called hunting. The vast majority of these deer are very tame. Can drive a riding lawn mower within 30yds of a group laying in the shade and maybe a couple will even stand up. In early 2000s there would be 10-15 bucks under my feeder every day when it went off. Now maybe 2-3 bucks but the same number of doe as earlier. Not many doe being killed! I have also heard lots of gun shots thru the years that I know we're in the subdivision and not on the old ranch headquarters property. It's only a matter of time before a stray bullet goes thru someone's home. Just hope it misses the occupants!

I too have heard rifle shots that seemed awful close but I just assumed they were on private property behind pony trail. I do know that some idiot recently just stopped on quarter horse and blasted a deer with a rifle at 7 in the morning a few weeks ago. Thankfully I heard the wardens caught him. That's what scares me about this place is the randoms who are dumb enough to come sling bullets in our neighborhood.Originally posted by KELLEY68 View PostBeen a resident of BarX for 15yrs and a avid bow hunter for 35 yrs. Kill deer.
Quit feeding.
Never understood subdivisions having population issues and feeding deer at same time.

If and when you get it sorted out, give me a call. I'll come help set things up. I'm just down the road in Columbus and know that course/area pretty well. I also know the TPWD biologists there pretty well.
Hope it works out for you guys.
Done right, I don't think it will be a big deal, esp. in LaGrange. If it were Austin or San Marcos or Dallas - different story...
But that's about as ideal a location to hunt (whether rifle or bow) neighborhood deer as you could ask for, since the houses are only on one side and the river provides a good safety buffer between there and the rest of town.
