Has anybody used the name your own price deal on Priceline.com? Is it worth it, or is it better to just buy tickets the regular way?

For airfare or hotels?
My wife is a higher up for one of their competitor sites and she says that it's ok for hotels but that Hotwire and hotels.com are much better. But when you find a good price in those sites check the hotels direct site too, could be better.
Airfare is usually gonna be the same price that the airlines are selling for

I was travelling a lot a few years ago, and I used hotels.com all the time. I never got any really good deals from priceline. I did book a hotel at the 4 Queens in Las Vegas for like 27 dollars a night this past summer...I didn't end up staying there because my wife changed her mind about wanting to stay downtown instead of on the strip, but it seemed like a decent price.

Best way to get a really good deal on Priceline is the "name your own price" option, as long as you don't mind not knowing what airline or hotel or rental car company you'll be getting. I've used the name your own price option many times over the years and have been very pleased. Have gotten some great deals, too. I have also used Hotwire and Hotels.com a few times. Have found some pretty good "set price" deals there.

I've used it with great success for hotels and rental cars. Never had a bad experience and it has always been cheaper than any internet advertised price I could find through other sites like Orbitz or Travelocity. The one thing I do notice is they charge more taxes and fees when you use the "Name your own price" option. Not sure if that is a way to make up revenue somehow, but it is still cheaper.
