OT CB antenna question

I have a Radio Shack CB mounted on in between the 4wd shifter and bench seat of my RAM, and the 4' fiberglass antenna mounted on the edge of the bed, a couple inches behind the middle of the rear window. I only put it up when I'm doing a long highway ride for hunting, so it sits in the back of the bed the rest of the time and has gotten beaten up, the copper wiring is exposed and I've repaired many times with electrical tape. It screws into a coil-spring accessory I bought, so if I bang something it bends, but the antenna does lean backwards when I'm at highway speeds. I do have ans swr meter to tune it.

What I'd like to get is one of the thin, stainless steel antennas with the base-loaded feature, and don't know zip about them. I use it so rarely I don't want to spend a lot on the new antenna ($25-$30?). Should I go to a truck stop and 'just' pick one up, or are there better places to get it? What exactly am I asking for- a 4' base-loaded antenna?

Are you talking about a whip? You should be able to get anything you want at a Radio Shack. Except the tennis ball. Get that at Walmart.

Went back and read it, you can get a 4 footer at Radio Shack as well. Although you might go look at a big truck stop. They generally have some cool stuff.

the little whips work pretty darn good on some cars. i couldnt get a signal out for junk on my ram so i went back to my firestik 2.. and perfect every time.... i personally like the K-40 base loaded whip..... if u were to get one

Wow- almost a 3 year old post! I have never been able to find one of the wire whip antennas, I have to admit that I have not looked very hard- when I'm in an electronics store I'll look if there is one. I can't seem to find the one with the ~ 4 foot long stainless wire and the base loading cylinder. I only put the one on when I'm doing a long drive for hunting, and then it's 99% to have a place to zip tie a small American flag to wave in the air above my cab when on the road.

Well, I don't know if TBH express is out of the question......but I have a Wilson trucker 2000. It was given to me and I never mounted it. Your welcome to it if you want. I think it's more or less what your looking for.

By the time you found a box, etc. it's probably more work than it's worth. But thanks for the offer. TBH, in a little way, reminds me of the CB radio days. We had a big group of folks with them in their cars and in their homes back in Irving when I was in high school.

It was like a live forum on channel 1!!!!

We had get togethers and everything.
