    Trail cam in south texas

I'm heading down to the ranch at 4 in the morning but I can't decide if I want to take my trail cam down there due to the fact that the ranch is only 15 miles from the border of Mexico. Kinda worried that it might get stolen have any of yall had a Illegal take your camera's? or damage them?

I wouldn't be as worried if it was a IR instead of a flash. I could make an IR blend in.

If it is stolen it's not illegals it's locals or drug runners. illegals have no extra space to carry the camera.

we are about 45 miles north of the border and have never has a tc stolen or messed with. I think the illegals have a lot more to worry about.

I haven't heard of any of the illegals taking the cameras, but that doesn't mean they don't. Just check around and make sure to not put in on the trail the illegals use.

Most of the time they just want food or water. We had 6 come up to our camp and they just held out empty water jugs. We filled them up and they went on their way. We had guns handy in case it would get ugly.

That's what we do. But a friend of mine was sitting in a blind when a group of 12 wearing all black came out of the brush walking straight towards them the leader had a Mac-10 in his hand and pointed it straight at him the whole time they walked across the clearing. That would have scared the ____ out of me..

The nice gentlemen in all black with the semi automatic weren't immigrating, I believe they were in the transportation business. We have quite a bit of that too on our place 11 miles from the border. Last year we found a bale of pot that got dropped, in a regular travel corridor they use. We just always stay alert and frankly I have given more bottled water to thirsty border patrol agents than to the foreign exchange students. Those guys bust their butt at work for sure.

We have half a dozen cameras out right now and have never had an issue with them messing with flash cameras. Don't worry and get some good pictures. Good Luck.

X2. We had several walk up on us at the Lodge with our heads down in the truck engine and even had a few walk up on us out in the field. Thats why we kept a pistol on our hip and the clip full. I never had one who wanted anything other than food/water/work/or directions to houston. But the fact is, you never know who is walking around out there, where they came from, and what their intentions are. 99% are looking for a better life than the cardboard box they were living in before, but that 1% will slit your throat for a bottle of water. As for the cameras, if anybody steals it, its probably a local gringo.

No point in having the camera if you are just gonna leave it in the garage. Put in out & good luck with it!
