I use my grandmothers . It's fifth of you favorite whisky and 5 lb bag of sugar . Cook the sugar till its caramelized and let it cool. Break it up in small pieces . Then poor half the whisky in another bottle and fill them both up with the sugar . It takes some time but once the sugar is all dissolved the stuff work great . I use Jim beam

Load up both feet with a heavy coating of Vic's vapor rub
Put on a pair of white cotton socks.
Take 1 benadryl, 2 if you are a big ole boy.
Go to bed.
You will be dried out, and feeling much better in the morning.
If you have pair of cheap throw away rubber gloves, It makes rubbing the Vic's on your feet easier and neater.
I don't know why it works so well on your feet, but as several other posters have confirmed, it does.

Colds are caused by viruses, and they are killed by higher temps, it denatures the proteins in the coating around them. Steam your face.
Boil an inch of water in a big pot, remove it from the stove and put on a towel on the kitchen counter. Put another towel over your head and the pot. SLOWLY move downwards towards the steam, breathing in the hot vapor through your nose and mouth. It should sting a little, but not be painful- don't hurt yourself. As the pot cools a little, and you get used to it, keep moving slowly lower and breathing. It should take a couple of minutes.
I do this every time I feel a cold coming one, morning and night and it knocks it out in a couple days and I'm OK. Kills the viruses that cause the cold.
Of course, a shot of whiskey or a hot toddy would be more fun.
