That deer could have been 80" on one side and 40" on the other. 4.5 year old 120" is better than that spike Oh, and he could have bred a few times keeping those desirable traits going so you could continue to cull
That isn't your typical 1.5Yo spike. Nice 11 point!
Those making backhanded comments I really chuckle at your inability to:
A. Tell the difference between a 1.5YO deer vs. and obviously older deer.
B. Figure out what we are all talking about when we say we will not shoot 1.5YO spikes.
Either case, nobody can help you until you want to help yourself. If you'll listen you will see this is one of the spikes most of us would shoot. I tried to highlight the point of the argument for those that lack in reading comprehension.
I don't play the "age guessing" game, but I will say this deer was definitely mature and was as rough as an old battle mule with scars and scrapes all over him. He out-witted me on four different occasions (one of which I had my crosshairs on him but it was too dark to get a positive ID).
He acted like a mature buck, always circling the feeder before he came in, taking a few steps then stopping and looking before only taking a couple more steps (and this was through the woods behind me) and always standing at a distance for a while before coming on in, just to name a few.
The deer's mind, wits and weariness were all there to be a good mature deer, the only thing he lacked was the bone.
So, with that being said, understand that this deer is a trophy to me no doubt. To be honest, he ranks up there with the smartest deer I've hunted.
