Feeding out a steer question?

Fixing to buy me a 8 month old Hereford steer. This is the first time feeding one out and I had a couple questions.
How long should I feed him out for?
How old should he go to the butcher?
What should I feed him for great tasting steaks?

I would feed him all the sweet feed he can eat, let him get to 1000-1200 pounds, I think most put them in the feedlot for 3 months or so, I would also let him hang and age for at least 21 days, good luck.
