Another vote for Leupold's. I picked up a pair of 8 x 42 Pinnacles about 10 years ago at Gander Mountain for a low open box / clearance price. I was looking to spend around $500 as well and settled on the Leupold's (mostly due to the low price). I have been completely satisfied with mine.

If your hands happen to shake like mine; Then I would go with a pair of stabilized bino's

I had a pair of leupold olympic 10X50's that were probably 7 years old. I dropped them out of a tree and damaged the eye cups on them. I sent them to leupod back before Christmas. They sent me a new pair of Mojave BX-3 as replacements. No charge. I recommend Leupold.
