Quality like-minded members for quality lease ??

What suggestions would you have on locating, recruiting, finding, vetting, determining, advertising, ect.... To get quality (the right) members for a new lease if someone was putting one together ?

    Any do's and/or dont's ??

Seems like having the right fit is so important.

    Thanks

Have as many conversations as possible with people interested in getting on your lease. Ask questions and tell them exactly what you are looking for in lease members. Unfortunately there will be people that will say all the right things just to get on a lease. That is when you will have to let actions speak more than words. Eventually over time you will find the right group of guys but it might take years.

If you have the lease and are looking for members, you will get a ton of calls and emails. I went through it last year and talked to over 200 people through email or on the phone. Needless to say, I talked to several different types of people. I would suggest to have lease rules already drawn up that you can send or talk over with people interested. Based on questions and responses will tell you a little bit about who you are dealing with. I wish you luck cause I know what you are going through. The main thing I've learned is to take your time and don't rush into filling spots.

Pm me if you need any help or have any questions

Don't you have enough close friends to fill it. I've been on same place for 22 years. Only one that has been there that long. Friends have come and gone from moving away or just going to bigger leases. I hunt on 1100 acres and have always had friends on waiting list to replace when we lose hunters.

This^^^. Been 17 years for me... Not sure if want to hunt with a bunch of people I didn't know anyway. At least get a few you know and trust. Then get them to recruit one each, that they know and trust. Then Weed out from there...

One thing is for sure... You will always have complaints and rules being broken. Deal with it as it comes up. You can never put together the perfect group. But you can work out the issues.

Separate the meat hunters from the trophy hunters.

I think you are mistaken there. I've met a ton of good guys, that without the internet, I never would have had the chance to meet.

Finding the "right" group of guys can be one of the toughest things to do. Heck, I even have good friends that are not the ideal fit for the lease I hunt. I disagree with the above post that they cannot be found on the internet. In fact, I believe just the opposite. TBH is a great place to find the right individuals.

This past season, I needed to fill a couple of spots. I advertised here on TBH and was quickly able to recognize several individuals as well as weed out numerous others. By performing a search of the user's history, I was quickly able to learn a wealth of information. You can tell a lot about an individual by the manner in which they post, the things they say, pictures they share, how they treat others, their experiences, and a whole host of other things.

Take the time and interview those that seem appropriate. It is of the utmost importance that you are clearly honest and upfront with your expectations of lease members. Have rules that are clearly outlined with no gray area and ensure that everyone is treated the same and held accountable for any rules not followed.

This is just a start, but you get the idea.

                        Good Luck to you!

DC1986 had a pretty good process. He and another lease member would invite you out. They'd visot with you at camp, tell you have their rules, and then take you for a ride around the lease. When you get back to camp, they'd hand you a beer and sort of quiz you on your management practices. Once that was done, they'd ask you what you think about the lease/ rules, and they'd ask if you'd change anything if it where up to you.

After you leave, he and the other lease member would discuss it, and decide if you make the cut. It was a close group of guys out there! There was only 1 time that all of the members where there at the same time, but it was a lot of fun. Killed some nice deer too.

Good advise on TBH. Once you have someone in mind, have them read your lease rules, ask them if they understand, ask if they have any questions and have them sign the rules. This will help eliminate misunderstandings going forward. You have a responsibility to be VERY CLEAR concerning expectations.
