    Deer Lease question?

I have a chance to manage a 4500 acre deer lease that was burnt due to lightning back in 2010 and hasn't been hunted since. My question is what could i expect as far as a deer population? I was on the lease before it burnt and it was a great lease.

I think if it was great before with a little time and good management it would be great again. Depending on how it burned you could look at it as a great big prescribed burn?

I would think it would be fine. That's way more than enough time for the browse to recover and the deer to come back.

Just as good if not even better! That old growth that has up burnt chokes out the greenery they love..

Is it still black? A buddy is on a lease that burnt a couple years ago, and they are killing deer this year

There's a reason people do prescribed burns!!

Most of the Chaparall WMA's 15,000 acres burned in 2008 and the deer did just fine. The biologists down there said the deer survived primarily on prickly pear.

I'd be interested in the lease depending on the location and the price.

I work here in Bastrop County and the place I work at was completely burned during the Sep '11 fires. It's about 300 acres or so and the same deer that came to the feeder right out back started coming back a few weeks after the fire. It had virtually no affect on the deer and turkey populations.
