I meet JP years ago at a happy hour at the Nutty Brown in Austin. We got to talking and come to find out we grew up in the same part of north Dallas and knew a lot of the same people. We went down to Forest Lane and street raced about the some time on Friday and Sat. nights We hit the same night clubs when the greats bands of out times played and found out that we could have been standing wright next to each other and not have known it. We talked with each other all night about growing up in the 70s. Life was fun and exciting back then and we were in one of the biggest playgrounds for a teenage kid. Over the years I have gotten to know JP as most of you guy know him, a father to two great kids a husband to a fantastic wife and a mentor at almost everyone that would take the time to talk with him. He loved teaching people what he knew weather it was hunting fishing or woodworking. Over the last few months of his life he has taught me about the most difficult part of life. Dealing with cancer and knowing that your time is near. You see it runs in my family and it about the only thing in this world I am afraid of. JP showed me and a lot of us on TBH how to deal with life's most feared situations dying. Dignity Respect Attitude. JP would make you feel that everything was going to be ok. He was a brave man a respected man a spiritual man but most of all a good man to all that knew him. I am going to miss you brother thank you my being my friend. God Speed.
Good words Kevin.

You will be missed my friend....
It's hard to put into words what a person like JP does to you when you meet them..knowing and meeting certain people brings things into your life that make you a better person and see people differently....JP was one of those people, he was someone you wanted to be around....

I just found some clothes JP left at my house from his last visit.
4 shirts
I told my cousin who lives in Austin that I was coming in to town for a memorial service and she asked me if it was for JP. Apparently she has friends who knew him as well.
Even in a sprawling city like Austin I'm reminded that it's a small world.
I'm going to try to get the majority of my grieving over with tonight. Hopefully tomorrow is more of a celebration.
