I'm so embarrassed. Question for our GS plumbers.

My wife went to visit a friend this evening and took our 3 year old son.

While my son is playing with the friend's daughters, my wife hears a toilet flush. She goes to check on my son and he'd flushed his socks and underwear down the toilet!! Needless to say, my wife was embarrassed. What is worse is her friend lost her husband a few days ago. I'm not nearby, the friend lives in NM. My wife flushed to toilet 3 or 4 more times and it did not back up.

My question is, what is the likelihood of the underwear making it out to the sewage line, or will the toilet be clogging up soon?

Obviously, we've offered to pay for a plumber if there is any damage.

There is a good chance it will get out of the house and into the main.

There is a good chance it will not!

I like the first answer better! Ha! Thanks for the reply.

Could you load in a descent amount of TP, then look down into the main clean out, have someone else flush, see if the TP makes it out. If not you know u have a clog. Not like it would cost you more to clean out undies and TP.

Who hasn't flushed their underwear and socks down the toilet?

            These both seem plausible.....

Nothing to be embarassed about. This is just one of the joys of parenthood. It won't be long from now and you'll be laughing about it.It'll also make for good story telling years from now to tell your sons girlfriends.

With the bowl at normal water level I would take a plunger and plunge the water out several times. Let it fill up and flush several times. If all that goes well I would say your safe.

I have seen cell phones get dropped and flushed with no issues here at work. Unless your 3 year old is wearing size XL, you should be okay... lol.

                Good luck.

Only good thing about the whole situation is that it is hilarious. Years from now this will be storytelling greatness, until then don't fret, the little socks and underwear are probably gonna make it out.

Be glad it was flushable. My kids put a fish comb down ours and it wedged sideways at the bottom if the toilet.

If it doesn't back up in the first... 5-6 flushes with TP it went to main, and all is well. The main could be 50-100' from toilet and it would have to fill the 4" pipe before showing up at toilet.

How old is the house? It it was built in the past 30 years or so, it should have pvc pipe all the way out. If it has pvc, you're probably ok. If the house is older and has other types of pipe, the laundry will be more likely to hang up in the pipes somewhere.

If it made it through the toilet and into the main leaving the house which is hopefully 4" pvc you will be fine.
