Set up every 100 yrds or less to hunt 10 ducks that were there the week before and end up with 1 ringneck, and a mud hen after shooting 75 shells.

Private land or nothing for me as far as ducks go.

That's pretty much it. I couldn't find a duck call for the first two years after Duck Dynasty came out.

Any public lake is going to be like that, only public land I'll even hunt anymore is the bay and way away from the boat ramp so all the "wanna be willlie's" wont put the time in to be there

Most Jackasses have NO idea about shotgon ranges.

While dove hunting I was walking back to my car to get some shells.

I saw an idiot shoot at a pair of doves that HAD to have been 80 yards from him. Emptied his gun at them. When I saw him point his gun at them I thought he was just practicing his swing until he cut loose.

LMAO....And this is why I hung up the duck calls and started bowhunting again. I miss it at times, then I walk outside, kick myself in the nuts and miraculously remember why I don't do it anymore after 18 years of dealing with Barney and crew. Not a big fan of pond popping private so I just stick to deer these days. I guess one of these days I might pick it up again but for now I like the private laidback aspect of a good deer lease. Plus venison eats so much better than flying liver..

That's exactly why I quit hunting Palestine in the early '90's........hunters everywhere and very territorial. Didn't want to get into any altercations, and the sheer number of hunters kept the ducks flying high and fast. Took up bowfishing instead, and got to see just how overpopulated the lake was with blinds.

I've been duck hunting for years and all I ever heard at the DU banquets and every where else, is we need to get the YOUTH involved with duck hunting. Well they are here, and are hunting more than ever before, all you can do is try to teach them to be better hunters and to "Do the right Thing". I talked to my two boys all the time when they get home from Hunting public land, they spend the night in Line and JD Murphy to try to get a good spot. They help people drag the boats over the rollers and work together so they can all have a good Duck Hunt. Instead of Criticizing DD, why don't you embrace it, try to teach the young hunters, My two boys could be doing a lot worse things then waiting in line all night to go Duck Hunting!! Duck hunting is for sure a young mans sport, especially on public land.

We haven't had much trouble with other hunters while duck hunting in fact sometimes we wish we had some near us to kick up birds, but we hunt in NM. I don't know what's so hard for some of these guys. I know if I see another hunter who has laid "claim" to an area, I give them respect by giving them room. Same thing in the woods, you wouldn't setup a Popup blind next to another guys blind. But hey, I guess if I didn't have any calls or decoys I might pull that stunt. Or just agree to shoot they're flyers. Btw, looks like we're gonna miss the majority of the migration here in NM. Most of the birds are still up north on this end. Surgery scheduled for 12jan, with 4-8 weeks of no weight bearing on my lt foot, won't be putting on any waders anytime soon

                  Let me present exhibit A:

Buddy's wife who has NEVER, EVER shown interest in duck hunting wants too go and since buddy is a deer hunter asks me too take them. I say sure thing and she proceeds too ask what they'll need. Waders, warm jacket, shotgun/steel shot blah, blah, blah when she asks what kinda call?

Me: Well I'd focus on shooting and let me do the calling but if you just gotta have a call get a whistle. Number one call along the coast and the Primos high roller is hard too beat....

Friends Wife: Can I get a Duck Commander one instead?

I think the Robertson ' s have did a wonderful job spreading the word but I wish they'd go into more of what goes in a duck hunt so more folks would respect it more.

That was all I had to hear right there... Sounds like Cade's cove if you ask me...

I used to try that lake but I wont step foot on or near that lake anymore because of that crap..

If you do go I've found that coming in around 9 and hunting the big points or islands is a good way to go...

With all that money they are making, they have a responsibility to EDUCATE duck hunters as well as promote it. I don't watch their show much at all, but I've never seen them spend a minute talking about conservation or good hunting ethics. If they have, good on them.

Were lucky in that the public land we hunt is not that crowded, and the places we work to get to no one else wants to even bother with.

But they are everywhere, and have gotten worse, Ive had guys shoot warning shots at us when we were there first and told us we need to move.

I have seen the same types of guys on public land before many times. My little brother is a hard working, 23 year old that loves to duck hunt when he comes in from offshore. Not much will chase him off the water... unless its a mean ole man who is chasing him with a boat and shooting at him because my brother was "in his spot". Its has become ridiculous.

We started hunting a spot in the Atchafalaya Basin in Louisiana that he found only because all the other yahoos don't even know it exists. It takes 45 minutes in the boat to get to the crossover point where we then cross 3 beaver dams, dragging the boat filled with equipment over each and every one. Total setup time takes 2-3 hours from when we leave the boat ramp. We go to great lengths to stay away from all the morons

I agree with you, Low fence. I have hunted public waters for years and have run into this situation many times. But, I keep going back. Private water hunts are much easier, but mostly, much more expensive. DD has definitely been and influence on our sport, getting many more hunters on the water. But, there has been no one to tech them how to hunt. It is great to get more people out there, it really helps hunting survive, but teaching the young hunters and new hunters how to get it done should be a priority. It would make things much more enjoyable for everyone.

That is why I quit about 10 yrs ago. Would love to duck hunt again if it weren't for the jacklegs out there!!!

Am new to Houston, but found a few public places to duck hunt. Just deal with whomever is there. Have not had to bad of a time. Had to learn new decoy sets and never call loudly. Only once did I have disagreement while hunting but ranger cured that quickly. Hope no one ever gives up hunting.
