especially if you get the American model with both .22LR and .17HMR barrels

I just bought the ruger american this week and love it. With the adjustable trigger and stock end replacements, one for open site and one for scope, makes it a nice shooter. I actually bought the .17hmr but same rifle and they use same mags as the ruger 10/22.

Savage will out shoot pretty much any other rim fire out there

Or a Kimber. But they quit making them a few years ago, and I ain't never parting with mine!

I have a CZ 452 American and a CZ 452 Varmint model. Both have had trigger jobs and are death on squirrels. Only .22s I've got that outshoot them are a Remington Model 37 (Remington's answer to the Win 52) and a Remington 513Sporter model.

Don't have any experience with the CZ 455 but I'd bet it is a hummer too.

Ok. I shot rimfire bench rest competitions for quite a while and we had a plinker class where you could shoot basically any stock configuration rimfire with no modifications allowed. I shoot the savage mark II FV and it would consistently score higher than the CZ and ruger rifles, or so the box loads of trophies say. The savage has the best factory trigger in my opinion for rimfires too. I will agree that once you get into the anschutz model 54s and Remington 40x rifles, then the savage leaves a little to be desired, but there is a HUGE price difference there also.

I've also competed in rimfire BR and travelled to Winnsboro, LA numerous years to watch the Silhouette World Championships and I have never seen a Savage on the bench or firing line

Competition was dominated by Annie's, Win 52, CZ's, 40x's, and Sako Finnfires

IMO, Savage probably makes the most affordable 22LR that has good accuracy but they don't win major championships

Yep. I agree but I don't think that's comparing apples to apples either
