I have been chasing a blackbuck on our deer lease, off and on for the last 10 months. The landowner gave our hunting group permission to shoot one buck this year. To be fair, we all drew names and I was the lucky hunter. Little did I know, that this was not going to be easy. Knowing that we have a pretty good herd going with some bucks that have potential, I expressed to the owner that I would like to try to shoot the oldest one on the ranch. Back in March, he had told me of one that was out there and had been seeing for several years. He was an old warrior that had survived through some pretty rough drought years.
Every encounter, he was either too far or saw me before I saw him. In August, I gave it a rest and focused on the upcoming deer season. The end of November, the landowner called me up to tell me that the old blackbuck was starting to show back up on camera. He even offered to let me hunt his blind since that was the pasture he was spotted at most. I told him that I would wait until after deer season. He said ok but he's starting to come to corn.
A few days later the landowner sends me a couple pictures saying look who I snapped a couple of pictures of this afternoon

He finally had convinced me, so I accepted his offer and hunted one of his blinds. I sat 3 days (one all day sit) and never saw him from the blind. I did see him over 300 yards away walking back to my truck one morning. An unsuccessful stalk that ended with me getting busted was all that happened that trip. Last week me and TXBuck74 went to the lease. All I planned on hunting was whitetail. After the morning hunt, the landowner told me he saw my "friend" while he was feeding the cows. He said I could hunt his blinds again if I wanted. I decided to give it another try........ The rest is history!
He came out at 80 yds that afternoon and presented a broadside shot. The .308 did its job dropping him in his tracks. I really could not believe it when I saw him. I still can't believe it.... He is one of the most beautiful animals I have ever put my hands on. Lots of nicks and character marks on his horns. A beautiful jet black hide as well. He looked to be blind in his left eye and his two front teeth were loose. A true low fence trophy that I am very proud of.
