    Hide fleshing

For some time I have wanted to tan a couple of deer hides. For those who have done this, what do you think about the power washer method?

I've tanned a few but have never tried power washer.

pressure washer is the only way to go far as I'm concerned. Not only does it clean the hide nicely but it penetrates water into the hide making the tan work better. And it's 20X faster than a fleshing wheel or fleshing knife.

3500 psi washer and rotating head do wonders....

Not sure what power our power washer is? Ill have to go look.

Another question, after salting the hide I wonder what soaking it in Triethelen glycol would do? I've heard of soaking in anti freeze.

It may remove the meat and some fat. But I see no way it can thin the hide. It takes a lot with a really sharp fleshing wheel or a draw knife to get them thin enough. Yea, a power washer will clean it and make it look good but that s about it. The thinner the better as far as tanning and then breaking the skin.

A power washer is the first step that my taxi uses.

you don't "thin" a deer hide before tanning. Pressure washer will clean it all up, then tan, THEN THIN......
