    Need advice on my Lab

    Long story short.

I have a Lab who will be two on Christmas day. My wife and I work hard with him and he hasn't had a single accident in the house. My in-laws come for Thanksgiving and bring their trio of horrible dogs, yorkie, shi-tzu x 2.

Their dogs pee in our house who knows how many times, and now our Lab has gone in the exact same spot three times. Before he would gently wake me up to let him outside.

What do I do about this? Besides tell the in-laws they can't bring their dogs anymore, that's taken care of.

There is some stuff at Petsmart/Petco that is supposed to eliminate that odor. It's a spray/wash. Also, you could put him in a kennel for a few days/weeks and see if the problem persists.

To discipline him, you really have to catch him in the act. Example: Rubbing his nose in it after the fact is just that...rubbing his nose it in after the fact. Dogs don't have those reasoning skills.

Try kenneling him at night and using the spray where needed.

Sounds like he is covering the other dogs scent with his as it where he lives. Or he feels discriminated against since the other dogs got to pee in the house but he never did.

But seriously it sounds like he can still smell the other dogs scent and is re-marking his territory.

We use this. It has an enzyme that breaks down what causes of the smell instead of covering it up. So the dog won't want to cover it up with his own.

The mistake was letting the other dogs in the house. But that's past now. Our dog always pees wherever another dog has gone. Not sure what can be done other than one of those enzyme busters. Good luck.

Yeah, I'm gonna kennel him again for the next couple of nights. At least while I try to remove the other dogs scent.

What's more sad, is that my in-laws now say "well, I guess we just can't visit anymore because our dogs are all we have." Umm, nope, you have family right here? lol, geez.

My mother in law used to pull that crap with her little jack russell. The craziest thing, is she lives 30 minutes away and had no reason to bring the dog. And she did quit visiting, which was even better. But she got rid of the dog so she comes now.

Same thing happened to me. All the older ladies in the family have those yap yap ankle biters. They made little "tinkles" here and there in the house. I raised hell they said its just little spots!!.. OK

So after they left and my dogs went around "marking over" the other dogs spots.

I sent them all pics of the large Lab puddles with a big Thank You.

No one has brought their dogs back since.
                    success

I had that problem several years ago, too, with my daughter's Boston Terrier. I finally told her she could not bring the dog to our house anymore. He would go underneath the bed. At first my male tried to cover by marking but I had to get after him. He has to understand that it is YOUR house. I hate getting physical but sometimes I lose it. You know, he never did it again.

                        x2

He is marking his territory because he can identify them by their waste. A dog sniffs another dogs rear end to find out about them. That is how they can identify one another. If you rub their nose in it you are just telling them smell yourself its you its really you. Try like hell to get the other dogs id's off of your carpet and you will be fine!
