Can anyone give me any info on this breed? been hearing the name alot. Kinda about the size of a jack russel or what? How do they do with kids if they are raised from a pup and about what is the going rate for a good one with a tracking bloodline? Cool lookin pups. I have two other medium size 50-60# Dogs already.

I think they get a tad bigger than a jack russell but i hear rhey will out hunt a JRT and are very brave lil dogs. Just wondering about the children part. Would get a pup for sure. Dont really want another big dog and thinking this mayne a great small hunting dog. They sure look neat.Last edited by DOUBLE.A; 12-13-2014, 08:51 AM.

Congratulations on your pups CTB and Sparkles! We've had jagds for 15 years and don't think we' lever be without one. Here's a picture of our new pup Kai. She's the same age as y'alls pups. We got her the same time I saw yours listed on the classifieds. I've never seen a breed that has more grit per pound! They're definately not for the casual hunter who can't put them to work almost daily.
Fishandhunt, they get about 20 pounds.

They are a small to medium size dog. 18-20" tall and 15-20lbs give or take a few. He's been really good with my kiddo (she's 6). The get in the floor in the evenings and play tug of war and wrestle. He will climb in her lap and let her scratch his belly for hrs.
I can tell you he is very loyal. He wants to be right by my side. If I go out of the room he's right on my heels. They have a high pray drive. I take him out 2-3 times a week and shoot rabbits and squirrels for him to catch. From everything I've read they are great family dogs, but really need to be taken out to run and hunt tegu rally or they will get into meschief. We have 2 other dogs one about the size Mojo should get to which is 3 and my Lab which is 11. They all get along great and Mojo has learned Ruger (lab) is boss.
He is a feisty little guy. I can get him on the ground and **** him off and you would think he was going to chew my arm off.

Same here fishandhunt. Sounds like the perfect dog for me and what I am looking for. I sure hate to see deer go to waste from bad shots or trails but I don't want a dog totally just for hunting that will be too aggressive and I any trust around my kids. We had a jack Russell rat terrier mix. He I still kickin. Like 15 yrs old thinks he is a Rottweiler lol.

A jagd is like an oversized jack russell mixed with a tasmanian devil. I have had a few in the past and they are awesome little dogs but INSANELY active and prey driven. Jagds are like billy goats on crack inside a house when they are young, they (at least mine were) great with kids but I wouldn't recommend ever making one a house dog UNLESS you have ample time to work with them and exercise them. I have never owned a hunting dog with as much drive and aggression towards its intended target, whoever said above that these dogs have no reverse is exactly right, they a 100% fearless and will die before they give up on their prey whether it be a hog, coyote or any other critter for that matter. Overall they are AWESOME little dogs but they are also a handful.
the word "jagd" in german loosely translates to "hunt" pretty much the same way the "jagermeister" translates to "hunt master".........these little dogs originated oversee's and were originally bred for ground work, if memory serves me right some of the earliest lines were bred for badger dogs........pretty much go in a hole in the ground, find mr. badger and drag his unwilling butt out of the hole......they excelled at groundwork, hog and bear hunnting and are 100% fearless, the ultimate meat dog in my opinion. I have seen an 80lb hound get whooped by coon and I have also seen a 20lb jagd make a coon his personal chew toy if that tells you anything about what type of dog these are.
The greatest thing about Jagds is they are still relatively new to the U.S. so they have not been water down and are still relatively true to their purpose.

I can't speak for all Jags but for mine. He's not too hyper until it's time to hunt. Then he's all out. As far as shedding, so far he doesn't shed a bit. That my change when he gets older. From the research I've done a good bloodline registered pup will run 700-1000 bucks.
