    Cattle Problems

So the few thousand acre lease I'm on is a working ranch as are most in West Texas. The particular pasture that my blinds are on is roughly 450 acres and cattle are rarely on it. Well wouldn't you know that after a year of no cattle, they put a bunch on their during the week of Thanksgiving.

My feeders, and rifle spots are immune to cattle problems but the issue I'm dealing with now is the cows destroying my pop-ups that I bow hunt out of. I have a nice 4 day set of pictures of the cows using my pop-up as a scratching post and eventually destroying it.

Clearly I am skeptical to put another blind out there as I know that they are just going to tear it down again but I would much rather bow hunt than rifle hunt. Has anyone found any ways to keep the cattle away from their blinds? I don't leave anything in there besides a chair so it wasn't like they are trying to get food or anything else.

Was thinking my only option would be to cut some decent size trees and put them around to create a barrier (hate to have to do that with 4 weeks left of the season) or put some t-post in and run some wire around. Problem with the wire however is leaving myself shooting lanes and being able to get in and out without ripping up my hunting gear.

This or strongly consider investing in a tripod.

That sux, next year build a wooden box blind, I would just throw together a brush blind to finish out the rest of this year.

I dont have a pic but in the past I have put tposts and cattle panels around my pop ups for protection against cows. You have to cut a few shooting holes in line with the windows . One advantage is you can easily attach brush to the panels to increase concealment

I couldn't find any pics, but you can even hunt inside w/o popup if you continue to brush it in over time. I still use my popup inside most the time but in a pinch just use the panels.

Barb wire. One strand around to deter them from coming

Anyone ever put a pop in a hay ring?

I had a pop up in a cattle area. I nestled the pop up into the trees and the front side I blocked out with 2 strand barb wire that was far enough from the blind that the cows didn't pay any attention to it. With 2 strands, I could easily slip between the strands with all of my hunting gear on.
