I guess it wasn't meant to be

Sittin in my popup when a couple does came in. I took a quick picture while I waited a few minutes to let the deer settle down then got my bow up knocked an arrow and waited for a shot. I waited and waited and waited. As soon as one would turn broadside the other would walk in front or behind it. Finally after a good 20 minutes one turned broadside and the other was clear. So I went to draw and with absolutely no wind they heard me. One of the does did a complete 180 and now they are both broadside but if I hit one I hit both as they are lined up perfectly. They both stared me down and there I was struggling to hold my bow back. After a minute (what seemed like 10) I just couldn't hold back any more. I had to let down. I tried doing it as slowly and quietly as possible but it wasn't quiet enough. They took off and probably won't be back this mornin although they were going to town on that vanilla corn. Going to sit for another hr or so and see what happens.

Good news is I can take a nap before work instead of cleaning a deer

Man it's really tough when there's no cover noise from a breeze. They'll be back.

Man that's tough luck. That's why it makes it so much more special when you do take a deer with a bow. Not near as easy as everyone thinks.

Bummer. How close were they when you drew back?

Ahh, the challenge of bow hunting. Ain't it grand.

I held at full draw for over a minute waiting for my last deer to clear it's eating buddy and get broadside, so I know how you feel.

Not trying to be a punk, but situations like this are the main reason you really need to have your bow set to a poundage where you can easily hold for more than a minute. I practice holding for a while before I take a shot to simulate the real thing, and it forced me to either get stronger or decrease my weight. It really increases your confidence knowing you can hold that bow as long as you need to (within reason) to wait on a good shot

I'd rather you be cleaning the doe. Good luck.

Your not being a punk. When I practice I feel like I can hold at full draw forever. My poundage is set at 60.

Guess I need to work out

I found out this year that letting down sooner made it easier to do so smoothly. In a popup, it wasnt an issue. Out in the open, well, its not much of an option.

Yup. Shoulder presses and DB rows are your best friend!
