I'm headed to the ranch Monday-Wednesday with a friend. I will be sitting in a box blind in the evenings with him so we can visit. The plan is to shoot hogs and maybe a deer. I have a new AR that I have to spill blood with. It's plenty accurate but I'm a little nervous about the .223 being big enough. I've taken deer with my .220 Swift but I'm more comfortable with the .243. Help me decide. AR or .243 Remmy? I'm packing light so both is not an option!

I will say if you are head shooting the 223 is great. (shot a doe with a 204) But my brother uses the same 204 for vital shots and hasnt had a doe take a step yet. It all depends on bullet type and your ability to place said bullet exactly where it needs to go. I feel that there is not much more room for error when using a 300 win mag. The energy needed to penetrate a deer in Texas is nothing like what is needed for Iowa deer.
All in all shoot what makes you comfy and smile at the end result. (I am a sucker to get every rifle some blood time)
