I completely understand, after my father and Gfather passed my family and the holidays became nothing but a MMA match, I haven't celebrated any holiday with the family in over 10 yrs. I can't be around all of the drinking and family bickering. I go and see my mother and brother for a few hrs on the holidays and then back to the house or camping.
I do miss the days pass deeply.

Well said.

I think we all have these things in life that have robbed us of something, but I think there is some value in learning to live above these circumstances and checking our minds to see how we respond to these times.
I have two specific times in my own life that if I allowed, they would have no meaning, except pain and hurt and I don't want that, so I chose to make them mean something else.
I hope you find the joy again.
John Maxwell says, “There is a difference between how we feel and how we handle our feelings.” Chuck Swindoll says , “I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it.”
For me, these words offer some inspiration and hope.
"Jesus said; “Come to me” with your problems and I will give you rest (Mat. 11:28). He said in John: “I am the bread of life”, “I am the light of the world”, “I am the gate”, “I am the good shepherd”, “I am the resurrection and the life”, “I am the way and the truth and the life”, “I am the vine”.
Attached to each claim is a promise to fulfill the deepest needs and desires of the human heart. We were created in such a way that only God can fulfill them. When we come to Christ realizing that He is God and that only He can meet our needs, our search comes to an end.12
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. (2 Cor. 1:3-5)"Last edited by TimH; 12-10-2014, 01:31 PM.

OP, I don't know your story, but chin up Buttercup! Not everyone is dealt a perfect hand, just play it as best you can. Holidays are depressing for many, (myself included... but mainly due to being single and having to drive across Dallas to visit my parents. The thought of that drive makes me ill) gotta fight through it and see the good in each day. Blessings are all around.
Prayers for strength and a positive perspective!

Prayers up that The Lord will bless you with comfort, healing and understanding. Lost my mother when I was 21. I hated all of the holidays specially the ones around this time of the year. I few years back I got closer to The Lord and he helped to heal the pain. Last few years I have struggle with things and was straying from The Lord. This past august I again found The Lord and he has enlighten me. My siblings and their kids will be with me this year for the holidays and I can't wait. Again, prayers that it get better for you, Sir.Last edited by Pedernal; 12-10-2014, 01:15 PM.
