    Another Question anout Snow Skiing

So the wife and I were looking at pants and jackets at Academy tonight. My question is, do you wear thermals and then the pants and jacket or do you wear 3 layers? Also, can I wear my Oakley sun glasses or is it better to have goggles? Never been so sorry for the questions. And thanks.

Depends on how cold natured you are. I usually wear a base layer then my pants but I tend to run a bit warmer than most. Sometimes I'll throw a tshirt on over my base layer top for when Im eating lunch. I prefer goggles just because it keeps the wind out of my eyes and they also stick to my haed better when I crash and burn.

My favorite part of snow skiing is getting drunk enough in the morning so I dont have to ski. Leave and go fly fishing.

The two times I went I was way over dressed and burned up from exertion while learning to ski. I ended up wearing jeans and t shirt and then water proof ski bibs and jacket. A full stocking cap was too much as well and I bought a bandana style ear warmer that allowed my head to vent.

Thermals then bib with a long sleeve shirt and jacket. Take the jacket off in the afternoon and ski in your long sleeve t-shirt of thermals. If it stays cold, you can always wear the jacket all day. Skiing makes you sweat! Buy silk thermals. They are thin and warm!

Thermals under snow pants is fine, it's high activity sport. You are about to use muscles you didn't even know existed

Your Oakley's should be fine unless it's snowing while you ski, goggles keep flakes from getting in your eyes.

Just like hunting........the weather will dictate what you need. The coldest trip I skied was at Crested Butte. When it was in the single digits, snowing and windy at the top of the mountain was way different than the day before when it was in the 20's and sunny. If the sun is out it is easy to over dress. With that said, I liked wearing long jons under my ski pants, with long jon shirt, turtle neck and jacket for my upper body. I use a jacket with removable liner that was very handy. As far as goggles vs sun glasses... You will want goggles if it is really cold windy and snowing. Wear your favorite sunglasses if it is sunny.

We also skied a few times during spring break. If you get some really warm weather(sunny and around freezing or above) I would dress lightly. I wore ski pants, and a turtle neck, cap with sunglasses. Weather like this you will see the locals wearing a lot less. Spring break skiers would be in shorts, no shirt, bikinis etc.

I forgot to add..........if you get really cold weather you will love to have a neck/face cover. We were comfortable skiing in the single digits at the top of the mountain. We have solid ice on our face covers and we were having a blast.

Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it. I am REALLY looking forward to it, and yes I know I will use muscles I didn't know I had. We are staying at The Springs in Keystone.

All depends on the weather conditions. During the day if the sun is out you will get hot. Sunglasses are good unless its snowing. I have though lost sunglasses on the slopes from crashing.

Good info here - We have been to Red River for spring break a couple times, but headed there for Christmas and it should be much colder this time... My wife and I have been wondering about the ski goggle thing, and what makes a good pair versus cheap pair in addition to being concerned about staying warm.

Probably going to get on those little pieces of wood for the first time this trip - may return in a cast

                        Have fun!

This is exactly what I did. But first I went to REI and Sun and Ski Sports to find jackets that were cut to a real size. Seems like a lot of them are cut pretty snug...

Then found best pricing at skis.com in addition to free shipping code

I've skiied many times at spring break and also at Xmas time. It's generally a lot colder at Xmas break. When the temps peak in the teens and it's overcast all day I wear goggles and neck and face mask. If the temps get up in the 20's or 30's I wear sunglasses and no neck or face covering. Same thing with coat and pants. Less layers needed when warmer.

I wear my gore tex 100mph fishing suit with minimum underneath. But layers are the best. Also I wear my costa's I personally don't like googles. Four years ago we were at Breckenridge when the high was -12 Windchill was -40. Conditions sucked for skiing but my gore tex suit never failed to keep me warm.
