    need to vent

sorry just need to vent, i saw the worst thing i have seen in my hunting life.
jumped a doe on our lease in llano that i guess some bubba tried to make a head shot on her. he misssed and completely took out her nose and both
jaws. i don't know how many days she suffered so i put her down. my question is how many of you all go for head shots?

    I head-shoot hogs all the time. I don't think I have head-shot a deer. Not saying I wouldn't, though.

Who on your lease in Llano would have done that? Have you vented to your hunting partners?

Now that i think about it, I have head-shot a doe with a 22 Hornet. Went between the jawbones and out the top of the skull. She was eating corn in a road standing broadside with her head turned directly away. Dropped her with nary a twitch.

don't think it was anyone on our deer lease, she was on a fence line bordering another lease. i also do head shots on hogs, it has a big head, i just can;t see doing it on a deer, but it's your choice.

Was about a 50 yard shot.

I've never head shot a deer, but I have neck shot a few!

I wait until the deer is facing me at ultra close range and I've got a steady rest and put the crosshairs about an inch below the chin.

I've never had a problem with this shot and the animal is dead before she hits the ground!

I would not have any problem with a head shot if I was above her and she was facing me with the top of her skull exposed to by crosshairs while feeding on corn. Again, everything would have to be just right with me having a really solid rest!

To give you an example of a simular situaltion. Last year I neck shot three turkeys with my .223 . All the turkeys were around 50 yards and all of them were one shot kills. (I didn't waste any meat with those birds)

I also head shot a 200 lb boar with my .223 at around 75 yards and a few minutes later killed a coyote at around 250 yards.

I found a doe eating corn in the road but she had a missing cheek and the corn was falling out as fast as she picked it up. Put her down too, I hate that kinda shooting from regular hands.
I head shoot hogs in a trap.

I have taken out countless deer with a well placed head shot. If you are proficient with a rifle and the range is 100yds or less, it isn't a problem. I have put down a couple of does that someone tried to take a head shot on and weren't quiet successful. It isn't a shot for everyone. If you can't put three shots into a 1" group at 100yds then you probably shouldn't be taking head shots. I am sure some will disagree for one reason or another.

Save more meat if you shoot them in the head.

I have head shot all most all of the doe's I've ever shot, and that's a bunch. I agree with texag93 on this one. A man has to know his limatations. If you don't have the ability don't take the shot. No matter what the range is.

I have never made a bad shot , or had to track one, one step..That I head shot.

all my brothers shoot does in the neck if they within 150 yards. i would probably do the same thing, but i dont think i would shoot for the head just cause it makes it so nasty to look at. i like to take pics of my deer. i dont mind some blood but i would like their head to be attached.
