    First trip to First Point

I just scheduled our first trip to First Point. Going January 9-11 to try it out and see how we like it. The folks that run the place is super nice and is very informal about the place and the things to bring and not. Very impressed already. Now I don't consider my group average bowhunters I think we are ALITTLE more than that. It's the reason I wanted to try this place out cause of how tough it can be. But with all that said what kind of pointer can you guys give me going into this place for the first time. Like what kind of set up did y'all use that worked and the deer didn't spook as much. Any other pointers would be appreciated considering we only have a full 2 days to hunt. We are thinking about taking ground blinds but would just using brush be better or a pit blind be better?

Put blind with a shooting hole the size of your arrow.

    But seriously...I'm serious.

There are multiple threads on TBH! Do a search and you will find tons of info already discussed. If you go to the Rate the day lease forum, I believe you will also learn more.

      Good Luck

Thanks. I have read a lot on here. It's the reason I want to go. Just wondering how far people are sitting off the road and how many small hole can you get away with to shoot through?

It depends.....anywhere from 10-35 yards, depending on what's around where you're setting up. We've hunted out of wide open short tripods and they never give a second look.....we've hunted in ground blinds that are super super brushed in and they take one look and are gone. My biggest advice is the wind.....play the wind to your advantage and you can just about set up whatever, wherever you want. Bo will come look at your setup and let you know yeay or ney.

It's a great place, but it takes a few times to figure out how to hunt it......but who knows, you may get lucky first time out.

          Good luck and shoot low!!!!

What are the best pastures or does every pasture see deer?

Doesn't matter, you won't be picking......it's picked for you. And, they all have big deer in them.

Yes......when you raise up to shoot over and through the shooting lane....yer done.

Tough hunting.....toughest you'll ever do.....and I would not take any quartering away shots while there, these deer will jump string so fast that your arrow will enter 3 ribs back and come out between the shoulder and neck......it sounds goofy and unbelievable, but I've hunted and shot these deer for 10 years......I'm just trying to help you out. You can use a pop up, just brush brush and more brush. Try not to use the real dark cover, they see it.....don't cut any brush near where you're setting up, they'll see the cut limbs.....make sure you don't leave the cut ends of brush facing out, they'll see it and flare. Make sure you're shooting hole or holes are very small and make them to where you can draw and then lean into the hole to shoot.....don't make a hole where you can be seen sitting in it.....they will see you and be gone.

This came out of Pasture 4 this last week. There were deer seen in many pastures that are as big or bigger than this 140ish 10.....and this deer weighed close to 200lbs.

The farther back the better. Tent blinds with camo netting tossed over and lots of brush
