    Diesel oil

I have a 02, 7.3 ford Diesel and I know every time I've have the oil change and I check it after driving a few miles the oil is already black. Had my change at the dealer last Friday and noticed the oil is still clear like I just came out of the bottle just wondering if they may have put the wrong oil in it or how can you tell if they put the wrong oil in my truck.

    Thanks,

If they put the wrong"type" of oil, it will not run worth a flip. The injectors are fired using oil pressure.

My experience has been the same as yours if I use Rotella T. When I bought it the previous owner had it changed, inspected, looked over at the Ford House. Guessing they use Motorola or something like that. When I would check it, it seemed really clean and light brown. 8,000 miles came along and I changed it using Rotella T. My first check it was pitch black. Oil pressure is good, temp is ok, level is good and the truck runs great.

are you draining out the hpop pump in the front of the motor and refilling it? I use a vacuum pump suck out the blk oil then refill then start it over and do it again 2 times and it clears up my oil.don't know if the dealer does this or if its necessary but I do it

If the oil is black in your diesel engine thats a good thing. That means the oil is doing it job. The oil not only lubricates, it also cleans the engine parts, making it black. I use rotella because its great stuff.

Good question Op. I take my '02 F250 7.3 to the local Ford Dealer Quick Lane because they change it almost as cheap as I can do it myself ($78). I've noticed the same thing that my oil looks "clean" when I checked it. I've been getting my oil changed at the same place every 5K miles for the last 50K miles and no issues with my truck so they must not be doing anything improper?

cool thanks this is the 1st time I've seen it clean after driving it. I all ways check it when I get it home and every time it black, but not this time had me a little concerned on being the right oil thanks again.

As others have stated, the HPOP holds about a quart of oil that normally doesn't get changed. When you crank the truck, this immediately gets mixed with the new oil, causing it to start to turn black.

Diesel oil is supposed to be black. That means it's doing what it's supposed to.
I'd be worried if mine wasn't black.

What brand of motor oil did the place use?
The only time I have seen "clean" oil in a diesel truck, was when an oil change place used Pennzoil in my company 7.3l years ago.
Truck didn't run worth a crap at startup either. The Penzoil would "foam up" in the HPOP and wouldn't create enough pressure to fire the injectors.
                  But the oil wasn't black.

Every diesel I ever had turned oil black till a bought a Duramax. I was worried because it didn't turn black. 7500 miles and could still see through it.
