    Food Plots

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a good food plot seed? I am planning on trying to plant sometime this week but not sure on what seed I should get. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am going to plant this in Red River County Texas.

    Thanks
    Brandon

oats, winter wheat, and austrian winter peas. you can throw in some iron and clay cow peas these will last until the first hard frost.

I always bought seed from the local feed store and had okay results. This year I bought Imperial Whitetail Clover and a fall food plot sample pack from their site. Every feed store I asked about the clover product trash talked it. Made me suspicious so I figured this year was a test...

They have all kids of research with deer, phds and many field testers. The local feed store has one guy telling me the Whitetail Institute is crap. Time will tell...

As stone cold said, oats, peas, wheat will all work. It depends on your soil type and ph as to how much fetilizer or lime you will have to use.

I ranchdog posted a link to his food plot development. Excellent pictures and advice. I would think it would be a bit early to plant but maybe not. https://www.ranchdogu.com/DeerPage/f...odplotsnew.htm

thats that I would use minus the winer peas( never had one of my deer touch em) go at least 35-40-lbs ac. clay and iron cow peas the deer will probably eat them to the ground before the frost kills them plus we usually dont get a good frost till mid to late Nov.

Make sure you use a winter hardy oat!

              good luck
