    Philosophical question for y'all...

This past weekend, my brothers and I were at deer camp, and decide to throw some mesquite on the grill and cook dinner. We had: 1) store bought corn on the cob 2) store bought marinated pork loin 3)brats 4)bacon wrapped tenderloin fresh off the deer I killed that night. The only seasoning we had was salt and pepper, and I got some cheap BBQ sauce from a gas station down the road.

This was probably one of the best meals I've had in a very long time, which is odd because none of the ingredients were stellar except for the loins.

This begs the question... Why does everything taste better at deer camp?

Because there was no woman there to tell you, you did it wrong...

I always seem to like my meat better when I keep it simple, just salt and pepper. But yes, deer camp makes everything taste better

I wouldn't touch this comment with a 10 foot pole.

Some of the best meals I've ever had have been at deer camp. The general atmosphere and surroundings influence the response of your taste buds for sure!

I bet if you have thanksgiving food in the middle of summer (same quality food for arguments sake) it would not taste even close to the same.

Something about the feeling of family, friends, fall, I would bet anything it tastes "better" during the actual "turkey day".

Same kind of thing here, the mood, atmosphere all plays a role in making it taste "better"

My dad would sometimes drive to our deer lease and BBQ. He said it turned out better there because he was able to give it his full attention. When he cooked at his house, he got busy doing other things that kept him distracted.

                      Good Friends around a campfire.

I can remember eating Frito's and Boudin at lunch 20 years ago. many other meals that still get talked about just because of the time and company it was spent with.
Some meals seem to bring back the memory of the entire week/weekend for me.

Could not tell you what i had for dinner last Wednesday night tho.....

Lots of good responses. Definitely has to do with the atmosphere. I have also noticed that around the camp fire we tend to eat as soon as it is off the grill or whatever. Usually piping hot! It ALWAYS taste better when it is still really hot. At least in my experience that is the very best way to eat anything.

I love an open mesquite fire for cooking. The smell from the food and smoke had to be killer. That alone would make it all taste good to me.
