    HELP: Biggest buck to date.

Yesterday's evening's hunt I shot what I believe will be my biggest buck to date. It's been a few years since I've trailed a deer shot with a riffle. I'm shooting a 165 grain barns 300WSM. After the 200 yard shot the buck mule kicked drastically and ran into the near by cedars loosing him. After 1hr and using flash lights, I found meat and bone (bone as big as your thumb) where buck was shot. This continued for about 20yards where I found a 2ft radius dark red blood. From the pile of blood I trailed him another 10/20 yards with just spotting here and there and decided to pull off and wait until the AM. What are y'all's thoughts? I'm a nervous wreck and wish I would've stuck it out with the bow!!

Sounds like you hit front leg and low in the brisket.

He won't be far from where you backed off.

I agree with the front leg shot, and if so he is still alive unless coyotes got him

Bone usually indicates leg shot. Is it a big piece of property? Probably going to need a good dog to go in and bay him for a finishing shot.

Maybe all front leg no brisket. There is an artery that runs down the front of both front legs, big enough to kill him. Not as quick as others but if you hit it he shouldn't be far.

Get a dog....... It's a leg hit and he can still out run you.

My initial thought is front shoulder. If you found a good spot of red blood I believe he's not far away.
