    Reminder; Kill Switch

Guys just a little reminder of how important it is to have your kill switch attached to yourself when operating your boats. Went out for a duck hunt yesterday morning with my son. Found a shallow back lake and got set up on it. Well after a slow couple of hours we decided to call it a morning and pick up.

My son went back to get the boat, he's 15 and usually drives it good while I picked up decoys. The entrance to the lake we were hunting has a stretch of sand bar about 4" deep that requires you to run pretty skinny for about 50 yards, I have been through here numerous times before. He hit the bar closer to the bank where it's pretty hard and tried to steer out a little deeper.

Well once the skegg started to dig in it cut the steering wheel hard left and sent my son flying out of the boat at 30 mph with the boat still at full throttle kicking up a rooster tail 30 yards long and 20' high. I couldn't see my son anywhere. My worst fear was that he was hit by the prop. I'm freaking out. Drop dekes shotgun and started sloshing through the mud toward him as fast as I could all ready wore out from picking up about 80 dekes.

I was so great full to hear the boat throttle down and see my boy appear again once the rooster tail subsided. I could have passed out at that time I was so overwhelmed by the entire incident I locked up like motor run with no oil. Cramped up from my back to my little toe. He was able to push the boat out to a deeper location where I finally got to him. I could tell he was a little shook up but trying not to show it.

Not me, I was more than shook up to say the least. He cut his hand and ripped off a part of his finger nail and will probably be a little sore for this mornings hunt but he's still here and that's what I'm most great full for this Thanks Giving.

Now imagine this:The same situation in deep water with waders and coat on,before daylight and with no lifejacket. This is the way a lot of hunters roll. Life jackets and kill switches is the only way to go.

Agreed. I'm guilty of this myself. In a way I guess he learned from me and that's no one's fault but my own. But both of us have learned from this. You can bet we will both be dawning these now.
