    The Next World Record Buck

Might just walk by you this hunting season.
Something that was written on another post got me to thinking today about something. Yes! I know that could be dangerous.
If you killed the next world record buck would you immediately show it to the world, keep it a secret for fear of someone getting your spot or would you hide it just long enough to try and make as much money off of it as possible?
Everyone that we have known about in the last 15 years or so has made money off of it. So whats your dream buck gonna be for you?

I'd pass out and fall right out of the blind, so I wouldn't have to worry about what I did with the buck. I'd be more worried about myself after I woke up, and whether anyone would believe me...

Only question in the bunch that I can answer for sure is that there is NO WAY I could keep a secret....even for a couple of minutes! I'd be making phone calls, sending text meassages, and blabbin about it all over!

I would keep my mouth shut so the area I hunt would not be swarmed by a bunch of numbnuts! We own the land we hunt on so I know we wont lose it. But folks will surround it and some would try their hand at poaching.

I guess I should answer my own question. I guess if it where me, I would try for some money making routes. Most likely would loose the lease as it would go sky high and I would need some way of supporting my hunting habits. LOL Plus, if at all possible I would want to make things better for my family. Some people have gas/oil wells, others have wind farms and all I have to fall back on is my good looks and that hasn't done much for me so far.

I'd make it public. I think that a single record buck killed in an area that normally only produces "good" bucks ( as opposed to "monsters" on a regular basis) would simply be regarded as a lucky fluke occurance. I can't see people totally swarming an area because of a single buck - even a world record one. It's not like there's going to be loads of world records around just because there was ONE- a "record" implies that it was a single unusual occurance. I wouldn't worry about losing my spot.

Would not tell a single person, I would also STRICTLY control all photos(copywright photos)...First person to see it besides my family would be the Area Game warden, taxidermist would keep cape, antlers would go with me to see Ken Witt to get a green score....after that "LOCK DOWN FOR THE DRYING PERIOD"

Then its time to make some cash to pay for more hunting..

For example if you killed the buck with a rage broadhead I bet they would pay to advertise that their broadhead killed the world record buck and that goes for the rest of your equipment too. Then there are shows that would pay to have the mount displayed at them. There are people that would want to buy replica mounts of the buck. This is just a few examples of many many different ways to make money off the world record buck.

Now if I killed the record buck I would immediately show it and wouldn't be opposed to making some money from it so I could hunt more.

I would immediatley post a thread on TBH....with no photos, and let everyone know I would be holding a news release in 4 days to show the details...

I would never tell anyone the exact location.... it's not like you could keep it a secret forever though

I'd probably be driving all over Oklahoma to find a check station that's open so I can tag it. (we have to check them in here, and most check stations are only open during business hours, so if it's after 9 pm, you're outta luck). Then, after a long legal case to get my deer back after not being checked in a timely fashion I'd try to get it back from whoever confiscated it, only to find it had been stolen. When I find it on Ebay, I'd then buy it back and be glad I have it hanging on my wall, and wouldn't tell a soul about it, lest it be taken away from me again. Of course I'd post the whole story here so I could solicit help (and sympathy) from y'all.
