    When I was......

*8, my Dad gave me a single shot .410 and took me dove hunting
*10, took my First Deer...a 8pt. buck with a 222..one shot in Post, TX
*28, paid for my 1st deer lease "all by myself"
*Don't remember how old I was, but my 1st born son took his 1st buck at 9
*Again...don't remember, my 2nd son took his 1st buck at 11
*My youngest son came to live with me when he was 12...now career Army

About to turn 62 on November 24th...never thought I would live this long with all my WILD/DANGEROUS days "behind me."

So...the message to all is....live every day, love your family....hunt until you drop....and NEVER let 'em see ya' sweat! Oh, one more thing, always live your life with the values in your heart and at least if you are like me, realize ONE day time will catch up to you and the young one's will sometimes think you foolish and just a Old F..t!

"It really DON'T matter what others say as long as you can look in the mirror and like what you see...no matter how old you are! Let's gear up and go hunting!

      I relate.

Bought my first .22 when I had just turned 6, a little Stevens Crack Shot,
single shot. I sold a hog that I had raised, cared for and fed to get the
money. I was around 10 when I sold another hog to buy a Mossberg 151K
      autoloader .22.

My first shotgun I got when I was 11, a Stevens Model 311 20 ga. side by side.
Helped build and paint a barn to raise the money. Ordered it from Sears and Roebuck.
I was at the mailbox every day in hopes it would arrive.

Killed my first deer that same year, with a Winchester Model 97 16 ga. hammer pump
with ought buckshot. A little towhead, we called button bucks back then. The old
man that took me along loaned it to me for the day.

My son killed his first doe when he was 9, near Lano. With my little Sako Mannlicher
stocked .243. I gave that rifle to him on the spot.

My now 12 year old grand daughter shot her first deer, a big doe, just last season
with a Winchester XTR Featherweight .257 Roberts that I had passed down to my
      boy.

Let's all keep it going boys and girls. You see, it's my belief that the desire to hunt
rests in our genes. Too many generations pass and it gets bred out. I offer for examples the
Irish Setter and the Cocker Spaniel. Once great hunting dogs, but now not even good trotline bait.
Human beings are simply mammals too.

I shot my first doe at 6 years old with a. 22-250 that I've now inherited from my dad.
Shot my first 8 point buck, with a .243 Mohawk 600 at 12.
I bought my first bow and killed my first deer with it at 18 years old.
My oldest son shot his first doe at 8 with my grandfather's .22-250. My youngest son isn't interested in killing a deer at this point.

                        ttt

Good stuff. I'm glad both of my sons are gun enthusiasts. Can't get them to try the bow and arrow but they sure like their pistols. They will inherit all my guns one day and I hope, keep the hunting tradition alive in our family.
